DRC - stakeholder jury
Pollination campaigns has recently completed project managing a series of 'stakeholder jury' type involvement events for the Disability Rights Commission. The events were designed to involve disabled people in the development of the DRC's Disability Equality Scheme (DES).
The method of using a 'stakeholder jury' was created to ensure the widest possible number of stakeholders could participate in developing the DRC's Disability Equality Scheme Action Plan.
Based loosely around the principles of a Citizen Jury this involvement mechanism aimed to involve people at a high-level of decision-making. Senior members of DRC staff including the Chief Executive, Bob Niven gave presentations to the jury on key parts of the action plan. The jury were then invited to ask detailed questions
Participants were drawn from a wide range of different stakeholder groups but unlike a citizen jury, many of them had existing experience of the issues at hand. This enabled a considerable depth of involvement from a number of different perspectives.
