Turning Policies into Practice

A report written by The Pollen Shop on behalf of the RNIB was launched at the National Assembly for Wales by Brian Gibbons, Minister for Social Justice and Regeneration on Tuesday 4 March 2008.

The ‘Turning Policies into Practice’ research found a staggering one third of service providers contacted were unable to provide information in English large print, Braille and audio formats. The situation was worse in Welsh with well over half (60%) of organisations being unable to provide information in Welsh large print.

The research highlighted that service providers were aware of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and most have accessible information policies, but they are still failing to make information accessible.

Ceri Jackson, Policy and Communications Manager of RNIB Cymru, commented "It is appalling that service providers are still failing to make information accessible. The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 has been in force for over 10 years. There is no excuse for people with sight problems not being able to receive information in the format that they request."
